OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

Dear Reader,

If you have picked up this book with the hope of finding a simple and cheery tale, I’m afraid you have picked up the wrong book altogether. The story may seem cheery at first, when the Baudelaire children spend time in the company of some interesting reptiles and a giddy uncle, but don’t be fooled. If you know anything at all about the unlucky Baudelaire children, you already know that even pleasant events lead down the same road to misery.

In fact, within the pages you now hold in your hands, the three siblings endure a car accident, a terrible odor, a deadly serpent, a long knife, a large brass reading lamp, and the appearance of a person they’d hoped never to see again.

I am bound to record these tragic events, but you are free to put this book back on the shelf and seek something lighter.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

REVIEW

I now remember why I love re-reading my old favourites so much. Although, I do remember the general plotline and events of this series it’s so much fun to rediscover all the small happenings that slipped through my 8/9-year-old mind.

The Reptile Room is the second book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, and let me tell you, the events in this book are pretty unfortunate.

I didn’t like this as much as the first book because the Baudelaire’s personalities were very muted and only really appeared prevalently a few times throughout the book which was disappointing. The plot was also a little slower than the first.

However, I do find this book a lot sadder than both the first and a lot of the books to come. It’s one of the only books where the Baudelaire’s get to experience something good. Their Uncle Monty is great to them, which of course, is the heartbreaking lull before the storm. They seem so happy and then their undeniable lack of good fortune catches up to them once again.

Not as amazing as the first book but still very good – I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of this series soon!

HAVE YOU READ THIS SERIES? DO YOU LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DO?

HOPE YOUR NEXT READ IS GREAT! 🌱
